Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima & Nagasaki

19 Aug

Since I now work with WWII Veterans (85 year old men and up), it got me thinking about why the hell would a small country like Japan start a fight with the great United States of America??

The sane and logical answer would have to be that the Japanese were too big for their britches. They had a very distorted view of reality. Their heads were too big to go through a standard doorway. U get the picture. The bottom line: they were completely stupid, especially after President Truman dropped the “Little Boy” uranium-fueled atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on 8/6/45. Did they surrender after more than 80,000 Japanese (mostly civilians) were killed? No, it took the second plutonium implosion type atomic bomb (killing another 80,000 people) to bring the arrogant leaders to their knees and wave the white flag with the red dot in the middle, six days after Nagasaki was destroyed.

So let’s rewind…why did Japan bomb Pearl Harbor on 12/7/41? Japan was trying to take over southeast Asia and thought they needed to paralyze the American naval fleet in the Pacific to meet their goal. Sounds reasonable…well, they actually might have succeeded in crippling our Pacific naval fleet if they would have completed their planned third raid on Pearl Harbor. But, they thought they had done enough damage to six of our battleships (four which were salvaged and back in service). However, our real naval strength came from our aircraft carriers which they hadn’t touched.

I liken Pearl Harbor attack to an idiot sticking his hand in a hornets’ nest. What do u think will happen when u stick your hand in a place it doesn’t belong? It is interesting because, although we immediately declared War on Japan, we also declared War on Nazi Germany. I believe Pearl Harbor was just an excuse for the U.S. to enter WWII and kick some Nazi butt! It is also interesting to me that the Nazis surrendered in 5/6/45 but the Japanese refused to give up. At least Mr. Hitler had some sense before he blew his brains out.

God Bless the USA and the rest of the world!!
